Day 1: Arusha/Moshi – Lake Manyara - NCA

  • Distance: 203 km
  • Meals: Lunch & Dinner included

After breakfast at your hotel, your safari guide will meet you at your hotel in Moshi or Arusha. He will deliver a short safari briefing, after which, we travel to Lake Manyara National Park. From there you will have the chance for game viewing, pausing for a picnic-style lunch. This impressive park is one of Tanzania’s most dramatically located wildlife areas, consisting of a massive but shallow soda lake (covering two-thirds of the park) at the foot of the Great Rift Valley’s western escarpment. The park’s varied habitat attracts a wide variety of animals, including one of Africa’s largest concentrations of elephants, Manyara’s famous tree-climbing lions, as well as flocks of flamingos attracted by the algae in the lake. In the late afternoon, we will depart and travel inside of Ngorongoro Conservation Area (but not inside of the crater) to your tented camp/lodge/campsite for dinner and overnight rest.

Note: This itinerary has overnight inside of Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA). We chose this for two reasons, the next day’s drive to Serengeti is a bit long. Driving inside of the NCA this night will shorten the next day’s drive. Secondly, the alternative is to spend overnight outside of a wildlife area close to the entrance of the NCA. But overnight in a wildlife area is a wonderful experience. However, it is more expensive. Also, the gates to enter the NCA close at 6 pm, so we would need to arrive at the gate before that time. At your request, we can give you a price quote for staying near the town of  Karatu this night.

Day 2: NCA – Serengeti Plains

  • Distance: 205km
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included

After breakfast, we head towards the Serengeti National Park. Leaving the highlands behind, we descend into the heart of wild Africa – the Serengeti National Park – with its endless plains, rolling into the distance as far as the eye can see (the name Serengeti means “Endless plains”). We head to the central Serengeti, known as the Seronera area, one of the richest wildlife habitats in the park, featuring the Seronera River, which provides a valuable water source to this area and therefore attracts wildlife well representative of most of the Serengeti’s species. We arrive in time for a picnic-style lunch and enjoy an afternoon game drive in the Serengeti National Park. Dinner and overnight rest will be inside of the Serengeti at your tented camp/lodge/campsite.

Day 3: Serengeti Plains – Ngorongoro crater

  • Distance: 145km
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included

In this itinerary, we have 24 hours total to be inside of the Serengeti, so we will make the best use of it that we can. Either a dawn game drive and then have a brunch or a game drive after an early breakfast –  you have the chance to discuss your desire with your guide. There will be game viewing as we work our way out of the park and back into Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA). Inside the NCA you have the option of visiting a Maasai village and/or Olduvai Gorge Museum (both at an additional charge). You then will go to your accommodations for relaxation, dinner, and overnight rest.

Day 4: Ngorongoro crater – Arusha/ Moshi

  • Distance: 273km
  • Meals: Breakfast & Lunch included

After early breakfast we will descend over 600 meters into Ngorongoro Crater to view wildlife for a half-day safari tour. Supported by a year-round water supply and fodder, the Ngorongoro Crater supports a vast variety of animals, which include herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo, and giant African elephants. Another big draw card to this picturesque destination is its dense population of predators, which include lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs, and the ever-elusive leopard. We will visit Lake Magadi, a large but shallow alkaline lake in the southwestern corner, which is one of the main features of the crater. A large number of flamingos, hippos, and other water birds can often be seen here. After lunch at a designated picnic spot (near a small lake frequented by hippos), we will ascend out of the crater and drive to Arusha/Kilimanjaro Airport/Moshi to end the itinerary.
