Safari in National Parks: Tarangire National Park, Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro Crater

This carefully crafted 3-day safari takes you through three of Northern Tanzania’s top wildlife destinations, each offering its own unforgettable experience. Despite their close proximity, each park showcases a unique landscape and wildlife spectacle:

  • Lake Manyara: A haven for bird lovers, home to over 400 species including vibrant flocks of pink flamingos.

  • Tarangire National Park: Known for its giant baobab trees and large elephant herds that gather along the Tarangire River.

  • Ngorongoro Crater: A UNESCO World Heritage Site with the highest density of wildlife in Africa, offering a rare chance to spot the endangered black rhino.

Across these three parks, you’ll have an excellent opportunity to witness Africa’s legendary Big Five: elephant, buffalo, leopard, lion, and rhino.

This itinerary is ideal for travelers seeking a balance of time, value, and comfort. You’ll spend two nights in well-appointed lodges close to the national parks, and enjoy two nights in a top-rated hotel in Arusha, complete with Wi-Fi, delicious meals, and a swimming pool to relax after your adventures.

A professional, knowledgeable safari guide will accompany you throughout the trip, offering fascinating insights into Tanzania’s wildlife and landscapes.

"Ndoto" Safari Itinerary

The group arrives at Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO). Participants are met by a representative of PK Adventure and transferred to a hotel in Arusha.

Note: The hotel cost only includes breakfast. Check-in starts at 2:00 PM.

After breakfast (around 7:30 AM), your safari guide will meet you at your hotel to begin your adventure. From there, you’ll drive to Tarangire National Park, arriving around 10:00 AM, just in time for your first game drive.

Tarangire is known for its diverse wildlife and stunning landscapes dotted with iconic baobab trees. The park is home to a wide array of animals including lions, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, and more. Most notably, Tarangire boasts one of the largest elephant populations in Northern Tanzania. These gentle giants are often seen near the Tarangire River, especially during the dry season.

While sightings are never guaranteed in the wild, your experienced guide will do everything possible to find the animals you’re hoping to see. PK Adventure guides stay in constant contact via radio, sharing tips and locations of rare sightings to enhance your safari experience.

At midday, enjoy a packed lunch in a scenic spot inside the park before continuing your afternoon game drive.

As the sun begins to set, you’ll be transferred to your lodge near Lake Manyara, where you can unwind and take in the stunning views of the Great Rift Valley from your room.

Start your day with an early wake-up and breakfast before heading to Lake Manyara National Park. This lush park is crisscrossed by underground streams, creating a vibrant habitat that supports abundant plant life and attracts a dazzling variety of birds—including the iconic pink flamingos—as well as diverse African forest animals.

Around midday, you’ll stop at the serene Maji Moto hot springs, where your driver will provide a delicious packed lunch for you to enjoy amidst nature.

After lunch, the safari continues with more wildlife viewing and breathtaking scenery. By evening, you’ll return to your hotel to rest and prepare for the next day’s adventure—a visit to the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater, renowned for its incredible concentration of wildlife that’s sure to leave you awe-inspired.

To make the most of this day, it’s best to leave the hotel early when animals are most active. Depending on your preference, breakfast can be enjoyed at the hotel or packed in a lunchbox to savor on the go.

At 6:30 AM, you will depart for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, arriving at the rim after about an hour’s drive. As you descend into this breathtaking crater, prepare to encounter one of the highest concentrations of wildlife per square kilometer anywhere on Earth.

During your safari, keep an eye out for buffalo, elephants, lions, wildebeests, zebras, hippos, and elusive cats such as caracals and servals. With some luck, you might even spot the rare and endangered rhinoceros, a true highlight of the crater.

By midday, you’ll reach a picturesque lakeside spot where a boxed lunch will be served. After lunch, you may choose to continue exploring the rich wildlife or begin your drive back to your hotel in Arusha—whichever suits your mood.

Rest in the hotel and transfer to the airport.

Note: Hotel check-out is at 10:00 AM. In case you need a late check-out before your evening flight, you have the option to extend your hotel stay for an extra fee. Let your manager know in advance if you need a late check-out.

Please Note:

  • By default our tours include shared accommodation in twin/double rooms, unless requested and agreed otherwise. Single supplement is available upon request. Please refer to the program to see your accommodation arrangements
  • Moshi and Arusha-based accommodations usually include breakfast only, unless requested and agreed otherwise. Please refer to the program to see your meal plans on each night
  • Most safari lodges usually do not include tea, coffee, soft and alcoholic drinks not to have you overpay for beverages you don’t need. You will be able to order and pay for drinks at the hotels’ restaurants
  • Tented lodges are the most common type of accommodation in savannah. Many of them work on solar energy. This sometimes means bucket showers, limited wi-fi and no hair dryers, all in an effort to reduce environmental impact. We encourage you to do some basic research on the accommodations in your program to ensure the safari matches your travel style
