Safari in National Parks: Tarangire National Park, Lake Eyasi and Ngorongoro Crater

This program is one of the newest additions to our safari collection — and it’s already becoming a favorite! It offers a powerful mix of wildlife, culture, and natural wonder in just a few unforgettable days.

Your journey begins at Tarangire National Park, famous for its towering baobab trees and massive herds of elephants. The park is a photographer’s dream, especially during the dry season when wildlife gathers at the Tarangire River.

Next, you’ll step into the rich cultural heart of Tanzania with a full day dedicated to meeting two of the country’s most fascinating indigenous tribes:

  • The Hadzabe — one of the last remaining hunter-gatherer communities in Africa.

  • The Datoga — skilled blacksmiths and traditional pastoralists.

You’ll witness their way of life, join them on a short hunt or watch traditional metalwork, and hear stories passed down through generations — a rare and eye-opening experience far from the beaten tourist path.

Finally, your adventure leads to the iconic Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site often called a “natural zoo.” Here, the unique volcanic landscape supports an astonishing variety of animals, all living within the crater’s walls — from lions and elephants to zebras, flamingos, and even endangered black rhinos.

This tour blends thrilling game drives with meaningful cultural encounters, offering a deeper, more holistic view of Tanzania’s magic.

"Anga" Safari Itinerary

The group arrives at Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO). Participants are met by a representative of PK Adventure and transferred to a hotel in Arusha.

Note: The hotel cost only includes breakfast. Check-in starts at 2:00 PM.

In the morning, after breakfast (around 7:30 AM), your professional safari guide from PK Adventure will arrive at your hotel. After a short briefing and getting to know your guide, you’ll set off toward Tarangire National Park. By 10:00 AM, your first game drive begins!

This park offers one of Tanzania’s most rewarding wildlife viewing experiences. Expect to see a wide variety of animals such as lions, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, and more. Tarangire is especially well-known for its large elephant population, often seen cooling off near the Tarangire River.

While animal sightings can’t be guaranteed — this is untouched nature, after all — your guide will go the extra mile to track down the wildlife you’re hoping to see. PK Adventure guides stay connected via radio, constantly sharing updates to maximize your chances of spotting rare species.

At midday, you’ll pause for a picnic-style lunch, then continue your safari into the afternoon.

By early evening, you’ll be transferred to your hotel — your base for the next two nights — perfectly positioned for the coming adventures to Lake Eyasi and the Ngorongoro Crater.

Nestled along the edge of the Great Rift Valley, the picturesque Lake Eyasi is a shallow, seasonal soda lake surrounded by dramatic landscapes and rich culture. Today, you’ll step into the worlds of two fascinating and completely different indigenous tribes: the Hadza and the Datoga.

The Hadza are among the last true hunter-gatherers on Earth. Living a nomadic life, they build simple huts from branches and grass, walk barefoot, and live in complete harmony with nature. Using handmade bows and arrows, they hunt for their food and forage for wild honey and berries. With a population of just around 1,000 people, the Hadza language — marked by distinctive clicking sounds — is unlike any other in the world.

During your visit, you’ll see how the Hadza make fire from scratch, watch a traditional hunt, and even try your hand at archery. Your guide will help translate as you connect with them, ask questions, and hear their honest, heartfelt stories — a rare and humbling glimpse into a way of life that has remained unchanged for thousands of years.

In contrast, the Datoga are a farming and herding community, known for their resilience and craftsmanship. Once displaced from more fertile lands by better-armed tribes, they settled near Lake Eyasi, where they continue to grow maize, beans, and millet, raise cattle, and preserve their cultural identity.

Skilled in blacksmithing and leatherwork, the Datoga craft everything from knives and arrowheads to traditional jewelry and tools. You’ll see firsthand how they smelt iron in open fires, work with animal hides, and use natural herbs for healing. You’re welcome to take part in their daily routines, try traditional tools, and purchase unique, handmade souvenirs — meaningful keepsakes of your encounter with East Africa’s rich tribal heritage.

To make the most of your experience, it’s best to leave the hotel early — many animals are most active in the morning. Depending on your preference, breakfast can be served at the hotel or packed as a lunchbox to enjoy along the way. At 6:30 AM, you’ll depart for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, and after roughly an hour’s drive, you’ll descend into the famous crater.

Known as the “Eighth Wonder of the World,” the Ngorongoro Crater is one of Tanzania’s most iconic safari destinations. This ancient volcanic caldera boasts the highest density of wildlife in Africa, offering you a unique opportunity to witness an incredible variety of animals in a single day.

During your game drive, you may encounter buffaloes, elephants, lions, zebras, wildebeests, hippos, and smaller predators like caracals and servals. And if you’re lucky, you might spot one of the few remaining black rhinos, a critically endangered species that finds refuge here.

Around midday, you’ll stop by a scenic lakeside picnic area, where your guide will serve your packed lunch. Afterward, depending on your energy and preferences, you can choose to continue your game drive or begin your journey back to your hotel in Arusha.

Whether you stay longer or head back early, your visit to Ngorongoro is sure to leave a lasting impression.

Rest in the hotel and transfer to the airport.

Note: Hotel check-out is at 10:00 AM. In case you need a late check-out before your evening flight, you have the option to extend your hotel stay for an extra fee. Let your manager know in advance if you need a late check-out.

Please Note:

  • By default our tours include shared accommodation in twin/double rooms, unless requested and agreed otherwise. Single supplement is available upon request. Please refer to the program to see your accommodation arrangements
  • Moshi and Arusha-based accommodations usually include breakfast only, unless requested and agreed otherwise. Please refer to the program to see your meal plans on each night
  • Most safari lodges usually do not include tea, coffee, soft and alcoholic drinks not to have you overpay for beverages you don’t need. You will be able to order and pay for drinks at the hotels’ restaurants
  • Tented lodges are the most common type of accommodation in savannah. Many of them work on solar energy. This sometimes means bucket showers, limited wi-fi and no hair dryers, all in an effort to reduce environmental impact. We encourage you to do some basic research on the accommodations in your program to ensure the safari matches your travel style
