"Savara" Safari Itinerary

The group arrives at Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO). Participants are met by a representative of PK Adventure and transferred to a hotel in Arusha.

Note: The hotel cost only includes breakfast. Check-in starts at 2:00 PM.

Nestled at the base of Mount Meru, Tanzania’s second-highest peak, Arusha National Park is a lush and tranquil haven teeming with wildlife. It’s one of the few parks in the country where you can not only explore by vehicle but also step into the wild on foot.

Walking safaris here are led by armed rangers who ensure your safety while sharing fascinating stories about the park’s flora and fauna. This immersive experience brings you up close to the natural beauty of East Africa in a way that few destinations can.

Curious about conservation? Visit the Ngurdoto Museum, which features exhibits on anti-poaching efforts and the dynamic relationship between people and the environment.

There’s something for every kind of traveler in Arusha!

  • Seeking adventure? Take a 4-hour trek through the misty forests at the base of Mount Meru.

  • Prefer a lighter pace? Enjoy a 1.5-hour bush walk leading to a serene waterfall.

  • Love sweeping landscapes? Glide across the Momella Lakes by canoe or take in the sights from a classic 4×4 safari drive.
You can even combine several of these activities into a single unforgettable day.

This program includes a short guided bush walk, perfect for easing into Africa’s wild side at your own rhythm. After your walk, you’ll hop into a safari jeep to continue your adventure across the park. Wildlife is never far—giraffes, bushbucks, buffaloes, and warthogs are often spotted just 20–30 meters from the trail!

The day ends at the picturesque Momella Lakes, a magnet for birdlife. From October to March, flocks of pink flamingos fill the scene. In total, over 200 bird species call this area home, including pelicans, ibises, hornbills, and even the occasional vulture.

Want to customize your adventure with a longer trek, a canoe ride, or another activity combo? Just let your PK Adventure manager know—we’ll tailor the perfect day just for you.

Today, your journey takes you to one of Tanzania’s most captivating wildlife destinations — Tarangire National Park. Known for its dramatic landscapes and remarkable wildlife, this park is centered around the life-giving Tarangire River, where giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and buffaloes regularly gather to drink — and where predators, especially lions, wait patiently nearby. Spotting big cats here is almost guaranteed!

During the dry season, the Tarangire River becomes the only reliable source of water for miles. This draws immense herds of elephants — making Tarangire the top destination in Northern Tanzania to see elephants, particularly between June to October and December to March. These gentle giants are often curious and relaxed around safari vehicles, offering visitors an unforgettable up-close experience — all in a completely safe setting.

But Tarangire’s magic isn’t only in its wildlife. The park is also famous for its ancient baobab trees, some of the oldest and largest in Africa. These massive, otherworldly trees create a landscape that is both iconic and breathtaking — a true African postcard come to life.

Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a seasoned explorer, Tarangire will leave you in awe with its beauty, diversity, and sense of untouched wilderness.

To make the most of this incredible day, we recommend an early start. Animals in Ngorongoro are most active in the morning, and by setting off early, you’ll have a better chance of spotting them in action. Breakfast can be served at your hotel or packed in lunchboxes for you to enjoy on the go — it’s entirely up to you.

At 6:30 AM, your adventure begins with a scenic drive toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. After about an hour, you’ll descend into the legendary Ngorongoro Crater — a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most unique wildlife habitats on the planet.

Often called “Africa’s Garden of Eden,” Ngorongoro hosts the highest density of animal species per square kilometer anywhere in Africa. Prepare to encounter buffaloes, elephants, lions, zebras, wildebeests, hippos, and elusive feline species like servals and caracals. With a little luck, you may even spot the rare and critically endangered black rhinoceros.

By midday, you’ll arrive at the crater’s lakeside, where you’ll enjoy your packed lunch surrounded by spectacular views. After lunch, you can choose to continue exploring this extraordinary ecosystem or begin your journey back to Arusha, depending on your preference.

This day in Ngorongoro is not just a safari — it’s an unforgettable step into one of nature’s most stunning masterpieces.

Rest in the hotel and transfer to the airport.

Note: Hotel check-out is at 10:00 AM. In case you need a late check-out before your evening flight, you have the option to extend your hotel stay for an extra fee. Let your manager know in advance if you need a late check-out.

Please Note:

  • By default our tours include shared accommodation in twin/double rooms, unless requested and agreed otherwise. Single supplement is available upon request. Please refer to the program to see your accommodation arrangements
  • Moshi and Arusha-based accommodations usually include breakfast only, unless requested and agreed otherwise. Please refer to the program to see your meal plans on each night
  • Most safari lodges usually do not include tea, coffee, soft and alcoholic drinks not to have you overpay for beverages you don’t need. You will be able to order and pay for drinks at the hotels’ restaurants
  • Tented lodges are the most common type of accommodation in savannah. Many of them work on solar energy. This sometimes means bucket showers, limited wi-fi and no hair dryers, all in an effort to reduce environmental impact. We encourage you to do some basic research on the accommodations in your program to ensure the safari matches your travel style
