Safari in National Parks: Tarangire National Park, Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti National Park
This safari offers a fantastic opportunity to explore some of Tanzania’s most iconic destinations in just a few days. On the first day, you’ll head to Tarangire National Park, famous for its ancient baobab trees and abundant wildlife, including large herds of elephants and buffaloes. The following day takes you into the breathtaking Ngorongoro Crater, a natural wonder where you’ll have the chance to see a wide variety of classic African species—such as lions, rhinos, zebras, and antelopes—all within a single, enclosed ecosystem. The adventure continues with two days in the vast Serengeti plains, where you may witness the awe-inspiring Great Migration and encounter even more extraordinary wildlife in one of Africa’s most celebrated regions.

The group arrives at Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO). Participants are met by a representative of PK Adventure and transferred to a hotel in Arusha.
Note: The hotel cost only includes breakfast. Check-in starts at 2:00 PM.
After breakfast around 7:30 AM, your safari guide will meet you at the hotel to begin your adventure. Once you’ve connected with your guide, you’ll set off toward Tarangire National Park, with your first game drive scheduled to start by 10:00 AM.
In Tarangire, you’ll have the chance to observe a wide range of Tanzania’s wildlife, including lions, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, and more. The park is especially renowned for its impressive elephant herds, which are often found near the Tarangire River, their main water source.
Since this is a natural wilderness area, sightings of specific animals can’t be guaranteed, but your guide will use all available resources to help you spot as many species as possible. Altezza guides stay connected via radio, sharing information to track down rare and elusive creatures.
After a midday meal provided in the park, your safari will resume. Later in the evening, you’ll be driven to your hotel near Ngorongoro Crater, a remarkable site you’ll explore the following day.
To make the most of your wildlife viewing experience, an early departure from the hotel is recommended. Morning is when many animals are at their most active. You may choose to have breakfast at the lodge or opt for packed breakfast boxes to enjoy on the road. At around 6:30 AM, your journey will begin toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, with the crater floor reached in just about an hour.
Ngorongoro is among Tanzania’s most extraordinary wildlife destinations, renowned for having the highest density of animal species per square kilometer. During your crater safari, you’ll likely see buffalo, elephants, lions, wildebeests, zebras, and hippos. You may even spot smaller predators like servals and caracals. With a bit of luck, you could catch a glimpse of the elusive rhinoceros, a rare sight due to their dwindling numbers.
By midday, you’ll reach the crater lake area for lunch, where your guide will provide packed meal boxes. After lunch, your journey will continue toward Serengeti National Park.
En route, you’ll have the chance to visit a memorial honoring Bernhard and Michael Grzimek, two German conservationists whose groundbreaking work helped preserve the natural wonders of northern Tanzania. Their story is told in the book Serengeti Shall Not Die, available online for around USD 10–25.
By evening, you’ll arrive at your lodge in the central Serengeti, nestled deep within the stunning landscapes of the Serengeti Valley.
Today marks the start of your adventure in the world-renowned Serengeti National Park—one of Tanzania’s largest and most wildlife-rich reserves. As you explore this vast landscape, you’re almost guaranteed to encounter iconic African animals such as lions, elephants, antelopes, giraffes, zebras, and buffaloes. There’s also a strong possibility of spotting elusive predators like cheetahs and serval cats, along with other rare species of the savannah.
Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Serengeti is celebrated for its vital ecosystem, its incredible concentration of wildlife, and the awe-inspiring spectacle of the Great Migration. This park famously inspired Disney’s The Lion King, though the real Serengeti is far more raw, untamed, and breathtaking. Your day will be spent exploring Central Serengeti, particularly the picturesque Seronera Valley—an area known for its diverse habitats and rich wildlife encounters.
Your journey continues through the heart of the Serengeti, where each day in the savannah reveals new surprises. No two game drives are alike—lions that lounged in the sun yesterday may be hunting today, and elephants that seemed distant might now approach with curiosity. One of the region’s highlights is the sight of the Kopjes—striking rock formations left behind by ancient volcanic activity. These rocky outcrops are a signature feature of the Seronera area and often serve as resting spots for wildlife, creating perfect photo opportunities.
You’ll also have the chance to see Simba Rock, the real-life inspiration behind the iconic scene from The Lion King where Mufasa presents Simba to the animal kingdom. Located in Seronera, this rock formation closely resembles the one featured in the film and is a must-see for fans of the movie and lovers of scenic landscapes alike.
Rest in the hotel and transfer to the airport.
Note: Hotel check-out is at 10:00 AM. In case you need a late check-out before your evening flight, you have the option to extend your hotel stay for an extra fee. Let your manager know in advance if you need a late check-out.
Please Note:
- By default our tours include shared accommodation in twin/double rooms, unless requested and agreed otherwise. Single supplement is available upon request. Please refer to the program to see your accommodation arrangements
- Moshi and Arusha-based accommodations usually include breakfast only, unless requested and agreed otherwise. Please refer to the program to see your meal plans on each night
- Most safari lodges usually do not include tea, coffee, soft and alcoholic drinks not to have you overpay for beverages you don’t need. You will be able to order and pay for drinks at the hotels’ restaurants
- Tented lodges are the most common type of accommodation in savannah. Many of them work on solar energy. This sometimes means bucket showers, limited wi-fi and no hair dryers, all in an effort to reduce environmental impact. We encourage you to do some basic research on the accommodations in your program to ensure the safari matches your travel style
